Editorial Policy
How KalaDharma prepares, reviews, validates, updates, and corrects regional Panchangam information.
Our Mission
KalaDharma exists to preserve, document, and digitally present Bharat’s regional Panchangam traditions while respecting the identity of each living tradition.
We aim to combine accurate astronomical calculation, regional presentation, printed references, community validation, and transparent correction practices through one evolving platform.
Editorial Principles
- Accuracy before speed.
- Astronomical calculation as the common foundation.
- Respect for regional terminology, methods, presentation, and observances.
- Clear distinction between calculation, tradition, interpretation, and community-contributed information.
- Transparent review and correction of identified issues.
- No silent alteration of significant historical records where a correction note or version record is appropriate.
- Panchangam data should not be influenced by sponsorship, advertising, political pressure, or unrelated commercial interests.
Panchangam Methodology
KalaDharma prepares Panchangam information using astronomical calculations together with regional configuration, location, time zone, sunrise reference, language, terminology, and presentation rules.
The astronomical foundation may be shared, while the presentation and traditional application may differ between regional Panchangams.
The applicable method, region, language, location, or reference profile may be displayed with the calendar or Panchanga data where relevant.
Regional Panchangam Policy
KalaDharma does not treat regional Panchangams as simple translations of one national calendar.
Each regional Panchangam is intended to preserve its own terminology, month structure, calculation conventions, presentation, observances, printed references, and living practices.
Malayalam Panchangam is the first live regional implementation. Tamil Panchangam and other regional Panchangams will be introduced gradually after appropriate preparation and validation.
Community Validation
Approved validators compare selected KalaDharma dates with trusted printed Panchangams followed in their region.
Validators receive a focused assignment, normally covering approximately 10–15 dates, and record values exactly as shown in the printed reference without unnecessary conversion.
- Application and eligibility review.
- Assignment of selected dates.
- Comparison with the declared printed Panchangam and edition.
- Draft saving and comments where values are unclear.
- Submission for review.
- Approval, correction request, or further clarification.
- Contribution history and recognition.
- Lifetime Membership after the first fully completed and approved assignment.
How Validation Results Are Used
Community validation is used to identify agreement, disagreement, terminology differences, calculation differences, presentation differences, and regional practices.
A validator submission does not automatically replace calculated data. Differences are reviewed in context before any correction, annotation, regional rule, or editorial decision is made.
Validation records may also help KalaDharma document how different printed Panchangams present the same underlying astronomical event.
Regional Observances Policy
Regional observances, temple festivals, local days, and community traditions may be submitted by contributors or gathered from reviewed references.
Every submission should include sufficient context such as date, place, temple or institution, regional relevance, source, and supporting information.
Community-submitted observances are reviewed before publication and may remain unpublished where verification is incomplete.
Temple and Institutional Information
Temple schedules, festival dates, ceremonies, and local practices can change because of institutional decisions or local circumstances.
KalaDharma aims to distinguish reviewed Panchangam information from institution-specific schedules and encourages direct confirmation with the relevant temple or organization for important visits or ceremonies.
Corrections Policy
KalaDharma welcomes evidence-based correction requests from users, validators, traditional practitioners, publishers, temples, and institutions.
Reported issues are reviewed against the calculation method, location, regional rule, printed reference, edition, and available supporting evidence.
- Minor typographical errors may be corrected directly.
- Material Panchangam corrections should be reviewed before publication.
- Where appropriate, the corrected value, reason, and effective date may be recorded.
- Historical or published data should not be silently changed where transparency requires a correction note.
- Disputed regional differences may be documented rather than forced into a single value.
Versioning and Updates
KalaDharma is an evolving platform. Calculation engines, regional rules, translations, observance records, validation workflows, and presentation may be updated over time.
Significant releases may be documented through version notes, release history, or editorial updates.
- Version 1.0 — Malayalam Panchangam platform and printed calendar.
- Future versions — Expanded validation, observances, temple information, and additional regional Panchangams.
Sources and References
KalaDharma may rely on astronomical calculations, regional configuration, traditional printed Panchangams, validated community comparisons, temple or institutional information, and other reviewed references.
Not every source will necessarily be displayed publicly in full, especially where copyright, privacy, licensing, or contributor confidentiality applies.
Editorial Independence
Advertising, sponsorship, printed-calendar partnerships, business-branded editions, and institutional relationships must not determine Panchangam values or override documented editorial review.
Commercial partners may receive branding or distribution benefits, but not control over astronomical calculations, validation findings, corrections, or regional methodology.
